I can't believe that people around the world envy us about everything we have or do. Seems they're observing us. All what they care about is ... How do we live? How big are our houses? How much money do we have? How luxurious are our cars? What brands do we wear? Where do we spend our vacations in summer? ....etc. They are killing us, but they don't feel that they are. They think that all the Kuwaitis are overweening, pretending to be philanthropists and telling poor people that we are the one who gave you this and we are the one who gave you that, showing off that we are generous, and we are the best, no one else but us, and employees are careless they get their salaries without working hard. They also think that every Kuwaiti has fields of oil under his house selling it to the government for large amount of money...

UHHH .. HOW FUNNY THEY ARE.
Here one of my situations which I've been told that Kuwaitis are rich people:
This situation happened to me when I was shopping with my mother at one of the malls in Spain. We saw an old beggar woman who asked us for money. I gave her (1.000 Peseta ,before they changed their currency to Euro, which is about 2.500 KD) She paused for a while because she was shocked. No one there or even here gives that much to beggars .. She asked me about my nationality and I told her that I'm Kuwaiti. She said "You're Kuwaiti !! I've heard that you have lot of money .. THEN GIVE ME MORE PLEASE ... I HAVE FOUR KIDS AND I HAVE TO FEED THEM ................" You know how do they beg people.
Believe me ... we are totally different, I know that you've been brain washed because of what you see in the media. All what you see is just silliness. If you see one person or two who are showing off that they have money, drive luxurious cars and looking at other people with self-conceit and a lowness eye .. or if you see employees that don't work hard, you will think that ALL Kuwaitis are like these people?
... OF COURSE NOT ...
Kuwaitis are not the same, and we're not all wealthy or careless, "YES" the majority of us have money , "BUT" others live on the salaries. "YES" some of us are not honest when it comes to work, "BUT" most of us are workaholic and deserve the salaries they get. Not just Kuwait has this kind of people ,all the countries have but even worse. We are really modest, generous , hardworking and like to help people who seek help, so don't let these people destroy our reputation and give you a bad image about us and our country "Kuwait".
THIS IS ABOUT THE STEREOTYPE OF KUWAIT IN GENERAL
I don't know how did I write these words, I just free my hand and wrote what was repressed inside me about what people think about us.

It's true that the majority of Kuwaitis have a decent income, hence the fancy cars and houses. But that's not showing off? that's just living normal to ppl with such income. being rich doesn't mean donating all your money or saving it to eternity
it's true that our gov. takes good care of us. why not live like we're being taken care of 3ayal?
bottom line :- for those who envy us... EAT ME! ;P

it was very well written... also u know, they stereotype expats living in kuwait the same way ... "u work in kuwait? so u much be rich!" i think everyone believes that we all have oil barrels in our backyards...
As for kuwaitis being lazy at work, i think this stereotype used to exist once upon a time when sorry to say it was true... long time ago. I also believe the kuwaitis today have worked hard to change that image.

and that's why we all should start by ourselves, because if we act the way we're stereotyped, then we will give exaggerators an excuse.
Many non-Kuwaitis are envious and even jealous because we as a people in general work much less than many while reaping the social benefits as well. Our government also subsidizes so much that imports can be cheap which in turn make our lives a little more comfy. And we are one of the fewest countries in the world not to grant citizenship just to anyone, making it that much more easier to retain the internal wealth as well as that much easier for foreigners to want to attack us. There are also no taxes in the country so far. Of course they can be pissed off. Then they see how nomads (Bedouins) and close-knit families who interbreed have dominance over the wealth in the country. This triggers all sorts of hate especially from democratic countries.
Most Kuwaitis are on credit by the way. They are not rich by assets like cash. Most of it is based on loans. The whole country, however, is slowly turning around now because of oil riches from high oil prices as of late. Still, the country is not as rich as it looks. It's a grande facade.

Yes, that's right everyone believes that we all have oil in our backyards .. I think we did a good job to do so through media ,but still others believe that negative stereotype.

Really nice post, Solo-para-me, congratulations. You know, I really appreciate Kuwaity people, but I started to better know your country a few months ago, when I asked my fiancee where is he born, and he told me Kuwait City (he has Egyptian citizenship, both his parents are Egys). He lived there a few years and I was thinking that this might have influenced his personality so I decided to read something about this country. And what I heard from people around (in general) was something very similar to what you have written: that Kuwaitis are very rich (the same thing I heard about Saudis), that they are materialistic people (hey, who isn't nowadays?!), snobs... Things like that, generated by envy, I presume. Really, most people genearlise that much that they extend these characteristics to all Arabs (in my country being Arab = being rich). And I have Saudi gfs who told me that these stereotypes affect them when travveling abroad, cause people feel free to charge them extra simply for being Saudis, hence 'having lots of money'. In my country it is the same: when I take a cab and they see that I am Romanian by the way I speak (I look Greek, Arabian, so I've been told) I get charged with 'x' sum of money, but when I am with my fiancee he is charged 'x+3' for the same distance and by the same company... At the restaurant it happens the same, they are extra-charging the bills with no shame... Only because they see clearly that he is foreigner! So you see what a mess these stereotypes steer! It is so unfair...

That's really annoying .. yes it's UNFAIR and hard to accept it .. See, you believed what you read about us and i don't blame you because you didn't know and that's the media's fault .. But why can't other people correct this bad image? That'll be better if they do so .. And I hope you knew us better after all .. and thank god that you look Greek, or you'll be extra-charged.

و مشكله الكويتين الاكبر ان يعتقدون انهم اغنياء او شعب مترف وايد
